Warren Leon (author and ACAT member) also writes:

"I have attached the findings from my book (The Consumer's Guide to Effective Environmental Choices, 1999) that show the average American household's greenhouse gas emissions. I think the results are instructive. If we were to do an inventory of Acton's emissions, there would be some differences for several reasons:
--Acton is not necessarily typical of the country as whole.
--The data in the book focuses only on emissions that can be traced to consumption by individual households and does not include emissions by government (such as public schools).
--All emissions are bundled into the final consumer product. For example, the emissions number for meat include the emissions from growing the meat, packaging the meat, and transporting the meat to a local store.
--The data is now about 8 years old.
