1. Introductions & what brought us here

Hmm, didn't take notes on this part...

2. Our Story So Far

We basically reviewed what was already in last meetings minutes especially the action items list.

3. Brainstorm & prioritize first steps.

We went through some of the MCAN documents, and picked out items that at least one person was interested in working on. There's a separate document with the list of possible actions.

We came up with these criteria for picking an early action:

  • Enthusiasm from us
  • Money savings for town and/or residents
  • Easy to succceed
  • Will actually reduce greenhouse gasses
  • Will create positive publicity for us
  • Not done yet

We did not have time yet to consider exactly how to apply these criteria to each possible action, but we did decide that a key early goal was to create a positive working relationship with teh town, by means of a preliminary meeting with Dean Charter (head of municipal properties), and the right folks from the school (not sure who they are yet).

So, Jim will draft a note for Dean to propose a meeting. Tom & Steve will review the note & we will find a Friday morning to meet with Dean. An early topic will be to find out whether & when energy audits have been done on municipal properties already.

Steve & Jim will speak with their school committee contacts & get advice on who to meet with at the schools.

4. So, what about this launch party?

We decided to focus on a space with a kitchen and a decent parking situation. St. Matthews was suggested. Steve is going to look in to that. UPDATE: Party will be

3 to 6 pm on Saturday April 17 at Saint Matthew's United Methodist Church 435 Central Street, Acton. (website)

We authorized Matt & Nan to continue to make wonderful decisions about the event, taking in to account our various expressed opinions.  They will need more help shortly. They will meet as soon as possible (Matt was not at the meeting to schedule a time) and more folks are welcome.  Look for an announcment: last I heard there was telephone tag going on to be followed by an email. Dan agreed to meet with this group, to be a New View contact if the event was to be at New View. But it isn't, so Dan's participation is no longer mandatory.

5. So, how about having a name?

We went over various words and ideas and acronyms, and settled on ACAT - Acton Climate Action Team.  So now we can do PR & have a name for ourselves.

6. Next meeting is

Thursday April 1st at 7:30 at the New View Common House.
