1-April-2004 Minutes of the third meeting of ACAT: Acton Climate Action Team Meeting was on Thursday April 1, 2004 at 7:30 pm in the New Vew Common House.
Our Roster has complete contact information, including new guy Rep. James ('Jamey') Eldridge.
1. ACAT overview Some of us attempted to review what ACAT is about & its goals, with the excuse that it was good for Jamey to know what we were up to. I wish we had written it down. The basics: we are a chapter of MCAN, and share its goals of reducing greenhouse gas emissions. We plan to work with Acton schools, municipal properties, and residents. And we realize that the work will involve a lot of people, so we are helping to bring together the various environmental groups in Acton. 2. Media An Acton Beacon photographer was there & took good pictures & wrote down our names correctly. A good article resulted - hooray! Matt volunteered to be the Official Media Contact. He will contact the Beacon & the Globe (Northwest section). We discussed the pros & cons of a general announcment of the launch event - the goal was that we wanted to make sure the attendees were a critical mass of currently-involved environmentalists, to make the networking as useful as possible. We decided that over-all the best thing was to go ahead and get the publicity. This was consistent with our decision to send the invite out to Beth Petr's email list. Update: Matt's fine words are all over the Beacon article: http://www.townonline.com/acton/news/local_regional/act_newtbclimategroup04082004.htm And a photo, too! 3. Strategy Plan update Tom showed us a very very brief draft in progress. He'll continue to work on it. Update: Tom has sent a much longer & detailed outline to Dan & Adam to review. 4. Treasurer We discussed the need to have some money available for stuff like our launch event & maybe our web site. Tom volunteered to be the Grand Poobah of All Monetary Matters aka Treasurer. We were swept up with enthusiasm & decided we would set an annual expected per-family contribution of $20, and Jim, Jim, Tom, and Matt each coughed up $20. Tom will find some reasonable way to track it - he'll decide if we need a bank account. So: please bring $20 to the next meeting or send it to Tom, if you haven't already. 5. Website We agreed that a real website would be a Good Idea, for internal & external communications. Jim agreed to grab the domain name actonclimate.org & start putting together a web site & mailing lists. Update: we now own http://www.actonclimate.org. It's not really a useful web site yet - I'll send out the link again when it is populated. It will eventually take the place of our current temporary web site at http://www.snyder-grant.org/jim/MCAN/ 6. MCAN liason Marc Breslow of MCAN requested that we choose a liason with the statewide MCAN group. Someone who could take part in MCAN meetings (or recruit one of us to attend), and pass on relevant info from Marc & MCAN. Tom volunteered - it turns out he's already on the steering committee of MCAN so he is well-placed to do so. 7. Municipal properties update Jim sent a short note to Dean Charter, head of municipal properties, to find a time for Steve, Tom & Jim to meet with him. No reply yet: Jim will follow up with a phone call. Update: Jim called, Dean wanted to talk right away, we had a short meeting. I'll send out a separate update soon -- it was a good meeting! 8. Schools update At the meeting, no progress yet on figuring out who we should be meeting with. Steve & Jim hadn't gotten info yet. Jamey Eldridge agreed to ask his Mom, who has been in the schools for plenty long, who we should talk to. Update: After the meeting, we heard from both Steve Long & James Eldridge. . The key person to contact seems to be Steve Desy. 9. Launch Event - invitees & inviters We reviewed the list of invitees & inviters & made sure we had good coverage. We re-assigned some of the contacts & added some new ones. 10. Launch Event - work teams & schedule: We thought it would make sense to split up the time as follows:
Folks signed up for some work teams as follows:
