Minutes of the fifth meeting of ACAT: Acton Climate Action Team

Attending:

  • Jim, Dana, Tom, Steve Long, Dan Groher

News & Notes & Discussion points

  • Steve paid his $20 by check.
  • Dana got a call from John Kerry.
  • Jim getting back with Dean Charter on major issues. Will suggest meeting on June 9th and 16th
  • Steve asks did "Rohan" fight Godzilla? (You had to be there)
  • We consider and rejected the phrase "no excuses" for the ACAT.
  • What are the low-hanging fruit? Get the most recent audits for Town and School, and figure out the low-hanging fruit. Extracting Town and School audits are the next step.
  • The State Purchasing office is the OSD. Operational Services Divsion. They have a Environmentally Preferable Product Purchasing Program, the State is allowed to do best value purchasing. The Town could purchase off of State program. Also how does the Town view life cycle / best value purchasing considers other factors besides first cost.
  • People need to review the updated MetaClimate Action Plan.
  • After we meet with the Towns and School we can come up with a priority list.
  • Adam Parker should come up a brief list of easy to do things that any company, government or school should do.

Schools:

  • "Jaimie Eldridge suggests to speak with Steve Desy"
  • Marie Altieri suggests "Jonathan Landman is the Assistant Superintendent in charge of curriculum. Thinks he is probably the person that you want to talk to. If it is facilities, it would be Steve Desy. Either way you would call 264-4700 and ask for the appropriate person." Steve mentions Jon Landman is leaving to principal of Belmont. Steve wonders whether to approach Bill Ryan. Do the schools have a top down or bottom up approach? Who do we go to? What do we emphasize? When is a good time to work on stuff. What is the low-hanging fruit.

Chamber of Commerce

  • Dana will eventually meet with the Chamber of Commerce and offer to be a Clearinghouse of information. What Dana is going to offer is education / information.
  • They could become Energy Star compliant and get certified. We could facilitate a workshop.

Next meeting, Wednesday June 16th 7:30 pm Common House.
