Acton Climate Action Team

Please join us for the initial organizational meeting of the Acton
chapter of the Massachusetts Climate Action Network on Monday
February 2, 2004 at 8:00pm at the New View common house located on
Half Moon Hill in Acton.

MCAN is dedicated to halting the threat of global climate change,
through reducing emissions of greenhouse gases, in our communities
and the state. This is a grassroots organization which is the
epitome of the phrase "Think globally, act locally"

You can find out everything about MCAN at:

http://www.massclimateaction.org/,

and a quick introduction is found at:

http://www.massclimateaction.org/MCANdocspdf/MCANleaflet.pdf.

The MCAN Network is composed of local and statewide groups that have
joined together in a cooperative effort. There are 15 local groups
and 4 regional or statewide environmental groups in MCAN at
present. The groups' efforts are principally devoted to conducting
public education and influencing municipal governments in their home
communities, to achieve local reductions in greenhouse gas
emissions. Some typical activities include:

* Writing Municipal Climate Action Plans
* Implementing Climate Action Plans and Efficiency & Renewables
Measures
* Performing Residential Energy Efficiency Outreach
* Influencing municipal governments in their home communities,
regional planning and regional transportation organizations to
achieve local reductions in greenhouse gas emissions

Most of the municipalities in MCAN have now joined Cities for
Climate Protection (CCP - http://www.iclei.org/us/us_ccp.html ), a
campaign run by the International Council for Local Environmental
Initiatives (ICLEI - http://www.iclei.org/ ).

The agenda of the meeting will be:

* Introduction of attendees
* Introduction to MCAN by Marc Breslow Director and Co-Chair of
MCAN
* Brainstorming for the Acton chapter of MCAN, including
discussion of primary goals, likely activities, and
organizational structure.
* Planning future meetings and assigning tasks.

Please feel free to forward this message. If you have questions,
concerns, or can not make the initial meeting and would like to be
involved, you can contact Jim Snyder-Grant at 978 266-9409, Tom
Michelman at tmichelman@comcast.net, or Adam Parker at
adam.parker@csgrp.com.

Directions:

Half Moon Hill is 1/2 mile north of Mass Ave (Rte 111) on Central
Street, just south of Idylwilde Farms. After you turn in to Half
Moon Hill, go left up the hill and turn right in to the first
parking lot. The common house is a few yards beyond the far end of
the parking lot. There are visitor spaces in the parking lot, and
if those are full, parking is allowed along the right side of Half
Moon Hill.

We look forward to seeing you on Monday February 2, 2004 at 8:00pm
at the New View common house.

Sincerely,

Jim, Tom & Adam
