Item for Beacon's "Town Notes"
Several Acton residents gathered for the first organizational meeting of the Acton chapter
of Massachusetts Climate Action Network (MCAN) on Monday, February 2. Marc Breslow,
co-director of MCAN, said that over 20 Massachusetts communities have pursued residential
and municipal energy-reduction projects in areas such as transportation, green buildings,
and energy-efficient lighting, heating and appliances. Breslow said that a climate control
group in Lexington persuaded the town switch to more energy-efficient lighting in four
schools that will pay for itself in a year. Lori Segall, a volunteer with Somerville
Climate Action, described how her local group worked with residents on energy-efficiency
campaign to reduce fossil fuel emissions and save money. At its next meeting, on March 2
at 7:30 at New View Co-Housing’s Common House in Acton, the Acton group will discuss
potential local projects and outline a strategic plan. If you would like to be involved
please contact Jim Snyder-Grant at 978-266-9409. Learn more about MCAN at:
